Project description:

This project aims to strengthen school- and community-level solid waste management systems in Ruby Valley and Khaniyabas Rural Municipalities, Dhading, Nepal. Led by CLEAN UP NEPAL in partnership with Shechen Karuna, the initiative focuses on technical support, capacity building, and awareness interventions aligned with local government priorities and national policies.

Key activities include the development of context-specific Local Solid Waste Management Procedural Guidelines for both municipalities, adaptation and dissemination of environment-related IEC materials, and implementation of eco- friendly art and craft activities in 16 schools to promote zero-waste principles among children. The project also involves technical review and support for zero-waste toolkit printing, alongside a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Zero Waste at School for Shechen Karuna volunteers and team members.

Expected outcomes include improved local institutional capacity for waste management, enhanced awareness and behavior change among students, teachers, and communities, and sustained zero-waste practices through trained master trainers. Primary beneficiaries are school children, teachers, and volunteers, while secondary beneficiaries include local communities and rural municipalities. The three- month assignment emphasizes participatory methodology, quality assurance, and close coordination to ensure practical, sustainable, and locally owned environmental solutions.
