Project Goal
To promote climate justice and protect the rights of youth and women facing multiple layers of discrimination, through research, capacity building, advocacy, and sustainable environmental initiatives.
Objective
To establish a gender-aware value chain for the collection and
recycling of UBC and low-grade plastics providing decent
employment.
Key Activities/ Interventions
- Develop Provincial level Climate Action and Justice Network.
- Conduct circular economy training for women and youths,
- Install metal bins for plastic waste collection.
- Develop an Environment and Green operation Procedure for Kapurkot RM.
- Launch Safa Nepal application in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City, Lamahi Municipality, Maharajgunj Municipality and Kapilvastu Municipality.

Key Outcome/ Achievements
- Empowered youth and women, resilient against the environment, championing climate justice through impactful research, advocacy, and capacity building
- 84 youths actively mobilized youth and women in the climate justice governance process.
- 1 Lumbini Province Climate Action and Justice Network formed and mobilized.
- 154 youths mobilized for environmental protection and climate justice.
- 6 cases of vulnerable communities identified through the situational analysis report.
- 4 metal bins were installed in Ghorahi for collection of plastic waste through recycling.
- 2 training courses for circular economy conducted for the youths and women.
- Waste dumping was reduced by 10% as per local government report.
- Environment and Green Operation Procedure developed for Kapurkot Rural Municipality.
- Safa Nepal application launched and implemented in 4 local levels.
Project Description
Intersectional Green Futures: Advancing Climate Justice for All tackles environmental
challenges by engaging communities in comprehensive waste management strategies.
With thematic areas encompassing waste management, climate action, education, and
circular economy, the project mobilizes volunteers for clean-up drives,
recycling/upcycling, and policy advocacy. The implementation of project activities
involves collaboration with local level government units, partnerships with district level
stakeholders and coordination with thematic partners of IM Swedish Development
partners (SOSEC Nepal, Yuwalaya). Through research, training, and capacity-building,
the project aims to create sustainable solutions and raise awareness about
environmental issues, fostering a culture of responsible stewardship for future
generations.
