Project Goal
The goal of the project was to improve a litter-free environment inside Shivapuri
Nagarjuna National Park, through sensitization and encouraging activities for hikers.
The project also targeted to educate children of nearby schools on the sustainable
waste management practices based on the Zero Waste at School program.
Objectives
- To Discourage littering practices inside vicinity of the National Park.
- To sensitize the hikers and increase awareness regarding littering and its impacts.
- To engage and educate children of schools on sustainable waste management practice.

Project Outcome/Output
- Clean-up campaign and sensitization conducted for 10 weeks along the 3 hiking routes of Shivapuri Nagarjuna National Park.
- A total of 3405 visitors were sensitized.
- A total of 481.25 kgs of waste collected.
- Installation of a waste collection at the entrance of the National Park.
- Intra School Junck art competition conducted, 15 winning students awarded with eco-friendly gifts.
- 82 students and 1 teacher sensitized through Zero Waste at School program.
- One awareness raising animation video on impacts of littering around National Park was developed. Project Description:
Project Description:
In Nepal, littering has been a severe issue that requires an urgent need for action based
activities to control the littering practices, safeguarding the environment and wildlife
habitat. Considering the seriousness of littering habit especially around the hiking
routes, the project was focused on 10 weeks permanent clean-up campaign and
sensitization at Shivapuri Nagarajuna National Park. The project also focused on
coordinating and collaborating with the relevant stakeholders, especially those working
in the waste management and conservation areas. This incentives-based approach was
implemented to sensitize the hikers/ visitors with the active participation of National Park
authorities.
