Successful 8th River Cleanup Near Balkumari Bridge Collects Over 44,800 kg of Waste
Today, we successfully completed our 8th River Cleanup under the RIVER+ project near Balkumari Bridge, collecting over 44,823.828 kg of waste! This monumental effort was made possible with the help of 114 participants, including 67 women and 47 men, with 80 dedicated volunteers.
Special thanks to the High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization (HPCIDBC) for providing an excavator, and the LMC Sanitation Department for supplying vehicles to collect and dispose of the waste. This initiative is supported by the World Bank through the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia (PLEASE Project) and implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme with support from UNOPS Sri Lanka. RIVER+ is led by Biocomp Nepal in partnership with People in Need Nepal and CLEAN UP NEPAL.
Following our 7th clean-up, which revealed additional waste, this event saw massive amounts of rubbish removed through active participation and the use of an excavator. Concurrent waste audits confirmed the total collected weight.
