Workshop on Vocational Training for Solid Waste Management in Lalitpur under GEMS – L project
The “Green Empowerment through Vocational Training for Solid Waste Management in Lalitpur” (GEMS-L) project, spearheaded by CLEAN UP NEPAL, successfully hosted a two-day planning workshop on July 16-17, 2024, in Lalitpur. Supported by BGZ (Berliner Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH) with financial aid from LEZ, the initiative aimed to engage key stakeholders in developing a comprehensive vocational training module for youth in the waste management sector.
The workshop focused on designing the internship program, mentorship, and business coaching components while identifying potential industry collaborators and community engagement opportunities. A total of 23 participants attended, including Manjali Shakya Bajracharya, the Deputy Mayor of ललितपुर महानगरपालिका कार्यालय, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Office, who delivered special remarks. Nicola Humpert, Managing Director of BGZ Berliner Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH, was specially thanked for her support, and Dr. Sisira Withanachchi, Project Manager of BGZ, provided the opening remarks.
Representatives from Lalitpur Metropolitan City’s wards 2, 7, 9, and 11, along with NGOs, private sector entities, and individual consultants specializing in environment and waste management, were also present. This collaborative effort marks a significant step towards empowering youth and enhancing the solid waste management sector in Lalitpur.
