Successful Cleanup Campaign Held in Ward 2 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City
A successful cleanup campaign took place in Ward 2 of ललितपुर महानगरपालिका कार्यालय (Lalitpur Metropolitan City Office) near Balkhu Bridge, where 96 volunteers, ward officials, and CLEAN UP NEPAL staff worked together to collect a total of 1,011.225 kg of waste. The waste audit revealed 986.805 kg of mixed waste, 6.8 kg of PET bottles, 6.9 kg of glass, and 0.72 kg of metal.
Rajesh Kumar Maharjan, the Ward Chairperson of Ward-2, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting his commitment to continuing such efforts at the ward level. Mr. Rabindra Lamichhane, Executive Director of CLEAN UP NEPAL, emphasized the importance of waste segregation at the source, particularly focusing on plastics, metals, wrappers, and other materials. He stressed that effective segregation helps maximize the value of waste, contributing to sustainable waste management practices.
This cleanup campaign is part of the ‘Green Empowerment through Vocational Training for Solid Waste Management in Lalitpur (GEMS-L)’ project, which is funded by the State Office for Development Cooperation (LEZ), supported by BGZ Berliner Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH, and implemented by CLEAN UP NEPAL. The event underscores the organization’s ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable waste management and community involvement in environmental initiatives.
