Social Behavioral Change Campaign: Zero Waste at Schools Initiative
Students have the power to drive social change and leading as an example! As part of the Social Behavior Change Campaign, we are excited to roll out the Zero Waste at School initiative under the RIVER+ project after Summer Vacation at Lalit Kalyan Kendra School.
As part of the Social Behavior Change Campaign, following up a session on composting, the ZWAS trainers engaged students in a scavenger hunt game to find organic waste and practically demonstrated composting using kitchen waste such as vegetable peels, fruit peels, and garden waste like dried leaves and sawdust. The students also learned about the impacts of open-air waste burning. This hands-on approach is designed to instill sustainable waste management practices in students, encouraging them to extend this knowledge to their homes and communities.
By promoting such initiatives, we aim to foster environmental responsibility and climate action from a young age. Zero Waste at School Trainers delivered a session on composting, its benefits, and managing E-waste.
This initiative is supported by the World Bank through the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia (PLEASE Project), implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme with support from UNOPS Sri Lanka. The project is led by Biocomp Nepal in partnership with People in Need Nepal and CLEAN UP NEPAL.
