July 2024: Promoting Environmental Awareness in Lalitpur and Kathmandu

As part of the RIVER+ project, the Zero Waste at Schools initiative is empowering students in Lalitpur and Kathmandu with essential knowledge and skills for environmental stewardship. Recently, our trainers visited Tika Vidyashram, Sarveshwor Basic Level School, Mahendra Saraswati Sewa Basic Level School, and Koteshwor Saraswati Secondary School, where they conducted sessions on the importance of the 3R’s principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), the dangers of open-air waste burning, and the benefits of composting. Students were not only educated on these crucial topics but also engaged in hands-on activities, such as making paper bags from newspapers, composting kitchen and garden waste, and participating in a waste audit and cleanup activity. These experiences are equipping students with practical skills and fostering a culture of sustainability, ensuring they play an active role in protecting the environment and contributing to a greener future for their communities.
