Empowering Youth in Waste Management: GEMS-L Vocational Training in Lalitpur
CLEAN UP NEPAL successfully organized a five-day vocational training workshop on solid waste management from November 18 to 22, 2024, at Ward-11, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Office. This initiative was conducted under the “Green Empowerment through Vocational Training for Solid Waste Management in Lalitpur” (GEMS-L) project, supported by BGZ Berliner Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH and funded by the State Office for Development Cooperation (LEZ). The training aimed to equip youths aged 18 to 40 with essential entrepreneurial skills in waste management, focusing on waste segregation principles, national and global waste management policies, and business development strategies for 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) initiatives.
A total of 25 core participants engaged in the interactive sessions, gaining valuable knowledge and hands-on experience. The event featured special remarks from Krishna Maharjan, Ward 11 Ward Member, and Debendra Lekhi, Ward 11 Secretary, who highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting sustainable waste management practices. The workshop was virtually inaugurated by Sisira S. Withanachchi, PhD, Project Manager of BGZ Gesellschaft für Zwischenlagerung mbH, reinforcing the global commitment to waste management solutions. Additionally, Nicola Humpert, Managing Director of BGZ Berliner Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH, was acknowledged for their significant support in making this initiative a success.
Mr. Rabindra Lamichhane, Executive Director of CLEAN UP NEPAL, underscored the need for continued collaboration to achieve long-term sustainability goals. The training was facilitated by Madhya Bindu Pvt. Ltd., ensuring that participants received practical insights and strategies to develop sustainable waste management businesses. CLEAN UP NEPAL remains committed to fostering environmental responsibility and empowering communities through education and skill-building programs.
