CLEAN UP NEPAL Conducts Vocational Training on Waste Management
From October 21 to 25, 2024, CLEAN UP NEPAL successfully conducted a five-day vocational training workshop on waste management at the Lalitpur Metropolitan City Office (LMC), Ward-2. This workshop, part of the “Green Empowerment through Vocational Training for Solid Waste Management in Lalitpur” (GEMS-L) project, was supported by Berliner Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH (BGZ) and funded by the State Office for Development Cooperation (LEZ).
The training aimed to equip youths aged 18 to 40 with entrepreneurial skills in solid waste management. The sessions covered key topics such as waste segregation, waste management policies, the global and national waste context, and strategies for 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) business development. Of the 30 participants, 80% were female, with 25 core participants actively engaging throughout the workshop.
Special remarks were delivered by Rajesh Kumar Maharjan, Ward Chairperson of Ward-2. Dr. Sisira Withanachchi, Project Manager at BGZ, virtually inaugurated the workshop, and Ms. Krisha Sthapit from NEDAG, Germany, shared valuable global insights on waste management. Rabindra Lamichhane, Executive Director of CLEAN UP NEPAL, highlighted the organization’s history and the importance of continued collaboration. The training was facilitated by consultants Yogesh Shakya and Ramita Maharjan.
