Community Voices Drive Policy Action in Ghorahi Environmental Dialogue
CLEAN UP NEPAL successfully organized a one-day Policy Dialogue on May 28, 2025, in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City, Dang, aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of local environmental, waste management, and climate-related policies. The event gathered 21 engaged participants—20 women and 1 man—representing CSOs, FKDF cooperatives, youth leaders, and women’s groups from wards 2, 4, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, and 17.
Participants shared real community challenges, including inadequate waste segregation, limited public awareness, and poor coordination between government levels. Despite these issues, the dialogue was energized by the strong leadership of women and youth, who proposed practical, actionable ideas. A key outcome of the session was the decision to establish Ward-Level Environmental Watch Groups to boost civic participation and environmental accountability. Additionally, FKDF and CSO representatives pledged to submit a formal policy recommendation memo to the municipality.
This dialogue represents a vital step toward inclusive, community-led environmental governance in Ghorahi. The initiative is part of the Intersectional Green Future: Advancing Climate Justice for All project, funded by IM Swedish Development Partner.
