Final River Cleanup at Dhobighat!

On April 2nd, we concluded our incredible journey with the 16th and final River Cleanup, leaving a lasting impact on our environment. Held at Dhobighat, Lalitpur Metropolitian City ward 4, this event brought together 170 dedicated Individuals, including 66 men and 104 women, who worked tirelessly to collect 3,418.13 kg of waste, comprising 2,972.68 kg of plastic, 164.1 kg of textiles, 28.3 kg of glass, and 253.05 kg of mixed waste. This brings our total waste collection across all 16 cleanups to an astounding 143,556.535 kg, with 68,938.62 kg being plastic!

The event was graced by distinguished guests who shared their words of encouragement and support, including Rajesh Kumar Maharjan, Ward Chairperson of Ward 2, LMC; Sanu Maiya Maharjan, Department of Environment, KMC; Sanu Maya Maharjan, Ward 9 Member, LMC; Samir Regmi, President of Tri Chandra Red Cross Circle; Shanti Tamang, Chairperson of SaSaJa; and Ramesh Shrestha, Principal of Lalit Kalyan Basic School. Their presence and guidance have been instrumental in making this initiative a success.

This milestone would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, local authorities, and community members who have worked tirelessly to restore and protect our rivers. Although this marks the final cleanup in this campaign, it is not the end—it is the beginning of a cleaner and more sustainable future. Let’s carry forward this spirit and continue our commitment to preserving our environment for generations to come!

The river clean up activities have been under the RIVER+ project, funded by the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project, implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme supported by the World Bank, and with implementing support from UNOPS.
