Completion of Phase I of ‘Breathing Easier: Protecting Children from Air Pollution’ Project
CLEAN UP NEPAL and GD Labs and Research are excited to announce the completion of the first phase of our project, “Breathing Easier: Protecting Children from Air Pollution”, supported by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) through the EPIC–Air Quality Fund.
In this phase, we collaborated with 39 schools across the Kathmandu Valley—including काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिका-Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Budhanilkantha Municipality, Kageshwari Manohara Municipality, Tokha Municipality, Chandragiri Municipality, Mahalaxmi Municipality, Kirtipur Municipality, Tarkeshwor Municipality, Nagarjun Municipality, and Madhyapur Thimi Municipality—to set up real-time air quality monitoring systems.
Each school is now equipped with AirGradient sensors that continuously track PM2.5 and AQI levels, helping students, teachers, and communities stay informed about the air they breathe.
All collected data is fully open and accessible to the public:
