As part of the RIVER+ Project, Biocomp Nepal—together with People in Need Nepal and CLEAN UP NEPAL—successfully conducted a 2-day Plastic Waste Management Training for 500 Informal Waste Workers (IWWs). Funded by the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia, and supported by the World Bank, UNOPS, and SACEP, the training focused on making waste management both practical and empowering.

Day 1 kicked off with a fun Waste Sorting Relay, followed by sessions on types of solid waste, plastic identification, Nepal’s SWM laws, and hands-on plastic segregation with key Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) practices. Day 2 offered deeper insights into plastic properties and the risks of microplastics. Participants received a “Know Your Plastic” kit, explored upcycled plastic products, and learned about household-level segregation, a plastic waste collection model, and tips on shredding, bailing, and selling plastics through the “Plastic to Value” kit.

The training not only built knowledge but also equipped waste workers with practical tools to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability in their daily work—moving us closer to a plastic-free future.
