Clean up Nepal undertook its third cleanup event at Tudikhel grounds on Saturday, 21 March 2015 from 8am to 10am as part of the Trash-free Tudikhel Campaign. Participants gathered at the western gate and the southern periphery of Tudhikel was chosen for the cleanup. Participants of the cleanup included team members from Clean up Nepal and users of the ground.
Shirsty Piya organised a game to energise the group, followed by which Suneeta Thapa divided participants into groups of three. She also briefed the participants about the Data Sheet to be filled out, which records the amount and type of waste collected.

The aim at Tudikhel is to set up a waste management system at Tudikhel, which consists of the setup of basic infrastructure such as public bins and a public toilet, timely collection of waste from these bins and instilling a habit by ground users to use these bins to dispose their waste.
These weekly cleanups and recording of waste data are a mechanism to interact with the ground users to raise awareness about a no-littering culture at Tudikhel as well as to obtain a better understanding of the types and volume of waste generated at Tudikhel, which can provide a basis for planning the design, capacity and placement of public bins at the grounds.
Participants were each provided with masks, gloves and a bora. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) provided cleaning materials and also collected the waste from Tudikhel today.

The cleanup continued till 9.45am, after which the trash collected was segregated into types and the volume recorded. In addition to segregation of waste into organic and inorganic matter, Clean up Nepal team members also engaged directly with the ground users to garner support towards the#TransformTudikhel campaign– a petition that aims to draw the Nepalese government’s attention to the need for basic infrastructure at Tudikhel such as public bins, park benches, trees and greenery, and public toilets.
The Trashfree Tudikhel Campaign will continue next Saturday on 28 March from 8am to 10am. For further details, please click here. For photos of this event, please click here.
