Clean up Nepal undertook its second cleanup event at Tudikhel grounds on Saturday, 14 March 2015 from 8am to 10am as part of the Trash-free Tudikhel Campaign. Participants gathered at the western gate and the south-western periphery of Tudhikel was chosen for the cleanup. Participants of the cleanup included team members from Clean up Nepal, Let’s Play Together, and users of the ground.
After participants registered, Let’s Play Together organised a 10 minute energiser, followed by division into groups of three. Dr Neelam Pradhananga briefed the participants about the Data Sheet to be filled out, which records the amount and type of waste collected.

The aim at Tudikhel is to set up a waste management system at Tudikhel, which consists of the setup of basic infrastructure such as public bins and a public toilet, timely collection of waste from these bins and instilling a habit by ground users to use these bins to dispose their waste.
These weekly cleanups and recording of waste data are a mechanism to interact with the ground users to raise awareness about a no-littering culture at Tudikhel as well as to obtain a better understanding of the types and volume of waste generated at Tudikhel, which can provide a basis for planning the design, capacity and placement of public bins at the grounds.
Participants were each provided with masks, gloves and a bora. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) was unable to provide cleaning materials or collect the waste from Tudikhel today due to KMC’s current obstruction at Sisdol Landfill Site.
The cleanup continued till 9.45am, after which the trash collected was segregated into types and the volume recorded. From this week, organic and inorganic matter was segregated, out of which bottle caps were given to a kabadi at Kalanki whereas the other waste was dropped to the Teku Transfer station personally by Clean up Nepal volunteers. Participants also engaged with the ground users. A group photo ended the second week of the Trash-free Tudikhel Campaign.
3554 pieces of waste was collected, including paan and candy wrappers and water bottle caps.

The Trashfree Tudikhel Campaign will continue next Saturday on 21 March from 8am to 10am. For further details, please click here.
