Household waste management surveys at Koteshwor

A baseline survey on the household waste management of 487 households in Koteshwor was carried by a group of volunteers of Clean up Nepal. Some interesting findings were:
It is mostly a residential area where 98% have already joined a waste collection service. In addition, 36% say they segregate their waste (22% have separate bins) while 26.5% compost their organic waste.
Furthermore, the preferred waste collection time for 93% households is from 6 am till 9 am whereas 87% said that “mothers” handle waste in their household. Therefore, these findings will be considered while designing the new schedule for waste collection and also while doing the door to door awareness raising as well as community workshops.
The survey will be followed by capacity building workshop for staffs of Waste Concern Pvt Ltd, door to door mobilization and community workshops on Sustainable Waste Management for the households.
This is a part of Waste Segregation at Source Project at Koteshwor, supported by Kathmandu Waste Concern Pvt. Ltd.
