This week, we facilitated the third module based on the 3Rs– Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The module focused on how students could practice 3Rs in their daily lives. Students were mentioned about things they could reduce such as single use plastic bags, mineral water bottles; things that could be reused such as plastic food containers, textiles; and things that could be recycled like glass bottles, newspapers, empty cosmetic products, etc. to ensure the amount of waste taken to the landfill is reduced.Also, students were introduced to upcycling, and demonstrated few of the upcycled products made of noodles and biscuit wrappers, milk pouches and single use polythene bags. Students participated in the human barometer game, which helped them know each other’s involvement in environment friendly activities.
One of the students asked, “How could a student contribute to reduce waste?” This was answered by his classmate with reference to his new “fountain ink pen”, an alternative to single use plastic dot pens that end up in the landfill. These small initiations by students shall lead impactful changes in future.
